I started learning how to have a healthy relationship with food when I started following “From the Roots” protocol last year. One thing Candace taught me was how to create a well balanced plate. Instead of cutting out entire food groups, I learned to put all the things on my plate that would nourish and eventually heal my body. Using an easy “hand” system of measuring portions, all I had to remember was to add all the elements. By following the rule of adding a starchy carb, flavor, protein, healthy fat, veggie, and gut love foods to every single plate, each plate was colorful, tasty, nourishing and filling. I not only discovered the joy of food art, but my family started begging me to cook the same way for them too, saying that they feel so much better when they eat whole and clean. That was the best support I could have ever received from them! Now, whenever I get off-track with my cooking for a while, my family starts feeling bad and asks to go back to clean eating. It’s so easy to open my book of recipes from “From the Roots” and flow right back into being intentional. I find that sometimes I need to take a break, to focus on growth in some other area or put all my energy into simply living while dealing with outside stress, and that ok, because life is an ebb and flow. Even when cooking creative meals can not always have center stage, it’s easy to eat nourishing food because this is not an extreme diet plan. It’s a sustainable way of life. It’s important to me that whatever season I am in that I am being mindful and intentional.

    Hey, I’m Candace!

I created the Nourishment Program because I checked all the boxes. About six months ago, I experienced several major life changes. I went through a breakup, quit my job, moved to a different state, and started my own business - and unfortunately, my health became my last priority. Instead of being consistent in eating nourishing meals that could fuel me for the new challenges that laid before me, I was using food in an antagonistic way. I felt like I had zero control of my life and my future so I used food as something that I could control: binge eating, using sweets as a “reward” or restricting myself if I didn’t “deserve it.”

Not only did these old coping mechanisms resurface in my life because of the stress, I lost sight of consistency, portion control, and pure enjoyment for food. This led to increases in stress, caffeine intake, worry, fear, and negative self talk. These patterns resulted in major digestive issues, hair loss, body dysmorphia, “imposter syndrome” with my new job, and a fear mindset about life.

But the irony about this is that I am a nutritionist. Aren’t I supposed to have it all together? I can’t meet with clients and talk about nutritional therapy when it clearly sounds like I’m the one who needs the therapy! But isn’t that how life happens? Our jobs end up choosing us? And that’s what happened. All of the research, all of the interactions with my clients that go through very similar situations daily, and introspectively evaluating my shortcomings have created a new and fresh perspective to change the script of my approach to food.

The Nourishment Program was birthed from my pain and my clients’ pain to help solve yours. It was created to take back control and to feel empowered to live a long and sustaining life by abandoning food restriction and diet culture. It will help you to fall in love with food again and to never use it as a negative coping mechanism or as a “reward.” The program has served as a catalyst that has nourished my root issues from the inside out.

Nourishment is not just “nutrition.” Nourishment is the nutrients in the food, the taste, the aroma, the ambiance of the room, the conversation at the table, and the love and inspiration in the cooking, and the joy of the entire eating experience.

I hope the Nourishment Program helps you find the ROOT solution to your needs as it did for me.
