After 15 Years of Gut Issues, I Finally Have My Life Back

For almost 15 years, I struggled with severe gut issues. At one point, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease — Crohn’s disease — and treated for several other GI-related issues. I truly thought this was just the way my life was going to be.
With added life stressors in 2020 and 2021, my gut health completely spiraled out of control.
In February 2023, I went on a hiking trip with my hiking group — and that trip was a major wake-up call. I barely made it up the mountain. I had severe muscle cramps, no energy, constant blood sugar drops, and my usual GI symptoms. I was in tears by the time I reached the top.
On that trip, I met my friend Candace, who just happened to be a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I knew I needed help — I was exhausted, foggy, miserable, and constantly worried about how my body would respond.
Candace had me complete a detailed health questionnaire to determine where we needed to start — and it was no surprise that we began with gut support. We ran testing and discovered multiple food sensitivities (including foods I was eating daily), Candida overgrowth, H. pylori, and several other gut markers outside of optimal range.
(Side note: I also learned that probiotics should be rotated — something I had no idea about, and likely a contributor to some of my issues.)
I followed the gut protocol Candace created for me, and within weeks I felt significantly better. By the end of my four-month protocol, I had lost 30 pounds and my GI issues had resolved. I chose to continue with an additional four-month protocol to fully clear the remaining H. pylori.
I’m now able to add foods back into my diet without symptoms, I’ve maintained the weight loss, and I feel better than I have in years — with no GI issues.
I retested in January and no longer have Candida, H. pylori, or any other gut markers out of range.
Just yesterday, my husband Jeremy and I completed an 8-mile hike rated as “hard,” and I hit my personal best pace per mile. The photo on the left was taken yesterday; the photos on the right are from this time last year. What a difference a year makes.
